That is is not Rob Zombie! That is a brazilian soldier ready for a mission in the jungle. One weekend ago it was the army week and the troops from P.Alegre went to celebrate in the Redenção Park: , http://www.aredencao.com.br/, is the site of that park.

There was a military exhibition and they also took the army band. On winter POA is crowded. In compensation on summer, from december to march, when the school is over, everyone who can do it, leave the city going for the coast cities and POA stays empty. It's good for one side, you don't have traffic jams and it's quiet. Those who can afford, middle class people, also own houses & apartments or at least rent estates on the coast cities, to where they take their families to stay until the first day of march. Only those who have to work return in the workdays. Every year, on february, 28, the freeway  is again full of cars and buses, everybody's returning. And on the 1st day of march everybody's here again! The city is full of kids going to school, traffic jams and people looking for jobs. And that will last until december, when they leave this city again.
We used to go to this park. At the age of 12, my sister stood up with one foot on the Gander boat, the other foot on the anchorage. The "Gander boat" slowly took distance and she fell all dressed up in the water. She hasn't life-saver, it wasn't deep water, but it was funny to see. 

The Independence Day of Brazil: It was 189 years ago, in September, 7, in 1822. Last wednesday, a March against corruption was done in front of the National Congress and street demonstrations in the main state capitals. Less corruption is what this country needs. Unfortunately the congressmen weren't working, but they must have seen it on the TV. It is a national holiday in all the country, nobody works on september,7, we have only essential services. When you have corruption among the Congressmen you don't have ethics to clean the society. We must start the clean-up from the top.

Mais uma Brasileira na familia! Rodrigo, mi sobrino, and his wife Cristiane brought their daughter Rafaela for the first time to POA.

There are more than 145 churches in POA, and Saint Sebastian church is one of them. This collective baptism was in Saint Sebastian church in Porto Alegre. Athough Rodrigo is now living in São Paulo (2 years), where Rafaela was born, they decided to bring her to baptism in Porto Alegre cause he loves too much this medium size city, his birthplace. He's now playing along with the São Paulo Symphonic orchestra and have to live in São Paulo. So Rafaela is a "paulistana", (born is S.Paulo). He has already toured the U.S (Chicago, Boston,and other cities) and Europe with this orchestra. Before that, two years ago, he was playing with the Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra(OSPA) and before that he stayed four years in the Julliard School, New York, (one of the most important in the world), where he studied violoncello. He was in New York on september, 11/2001, in the Lincoln Center. That day we got worried, until a friend of him called his mom telling he said he was all right! All the students were oriented to leave their rooms with a pillow and go to the basement. Telephone calls to Brazil were difficult, but in one or two days the routine of classes were normal again. He plays violoncello since he was 5 years old, and before Julliard, he stayed in Hartford/NY. He played in several orchestras here, and took classes with brazilian cello player Antonio Menezes, Steven Thomas from Hartford University/NY, among other great cello players. In N.York he has already played the Carnegie Hall. Antonio Menezes invited him to study in Basel, Switzerland, and Steven Thomas invited him to study in Hartford, where he stayed, before he run a test and went to Julliard. My mom and sister- his grandma and mother- are going next friday, 15, to stay a week with him in São Paulo.

 DEFENSE CONSULTING CAREER:
Baxter fell into his second profession almost by accident. In the mid-1980s, Baxter's interest in music recording technology led him to wonder about hardware and software that was originally developed for military use, i.e. data-compression algorithms and large-capacity storage devices. As it happened, his next-door neighbor was a retired engineer who had worked on the missile program. This neighbor bought Baxter a subscription to Aviation Week magazine, provoking his interest in additional military-oriented publications and missile defense systems in particular. He became self-taught in this area, and at one point he wrote a five-page paper that proposed converting the ship-based anti-aircraft missile into a rudimentary missile defense system. He gave the paper to California Republican congressman Dana Rohrabacher, and his career as a defense consultant began.
Backed by several influential Capitol Hill lawmakers, Baxter received a series of classified security clearances. In 1995, Pennsylvania Republican congressman Curt Weldon, then the chairman of the House Military Research and Development Subcommittee, nominated Baxter to chair the Civilian Advisory Board for Ballistic Missile Defense.
Baxter's work with that panel led to consulting contracts with the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. He now consults to the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. intelligence community, as well as for defense-oriented manufacturers including Science Applications International Corporation ("SAIC"), Northrop Grumman Corp. and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. He has been quoted as saying his unconventional approach to thinking about terrorism, tied to his interest in technology, is a major reason he became sought after by the government.
"We thought turntables were for playing records until rappers began to use them as instruments, and we thought airplanes were for carrying passengers until terrorists realized they could be used as missiles,"^[1] Baxter has said. "My big thing is to look at existing technologies and try to see other ways they can be used, which happens in music all the time and happens to be what terrorists are incredibly good at."
Baxter has also appeared in public debates and as a guest on CNN and Fox News Channel advocating missile defense. He served as a national spokesman for Americans for Missile Defense, a coalition of organizations devoted to the issue.
In April 2005, he joined the NASA Exploration Systems Advisory Committee (ESAC).
Baxter was a member of an independent study group that produced the "Civil Applications Committee Blue Ribbon Study" recommending an increased domestic role for U.S. spy satellites in September 2005.^[2] This study was first reported by the Wall Street Journal on August 15, 2007.^[3]
Baxter is listed as Senior Thinker and Raconteur at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition.^[4]

A Travelin Band: Last weekend we went to play in a bar at the beach. We took the freeway from Porto Alegre. It takes 1 hour to get there, at the coast, 40 km south from Torres, in a beach called Capão da Canoa. It also happened the 23° international balonism festival,(from wednesday, April,20 to Sunday 24/04.) in Torres.

Torres , the beach of my childhood & adolescence, is a city where the litoral of Rio Grande do Sul begins. After that last rock seen behind , route south, there are no more elevations on the coast of RS, it's 622km of continuous beach,  just sand and sea, a fine thin sand that caress your feet. After that, Brazil ends and there is Uruguay. Cassino beach, the last beach at south, is the largest beach on Earth,  one single beach with "255km"of extension.

Torres aereal view: This entrance is Mampituba river, boundary with the state of  Santa Catarina , at north. From Torres, route north, you'll have to go 7.000km straight line, or 8.500km boarding the coast, till the end of Brazil at north. But it's not a continuous beach.

Wellcome to the Jungle! The world must stop this now. Deforestation and destruction of biodiversity in the name of economical "progress". There are still a lot of brazilians remaining with this point of view. Belo Monte Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

The Brazilian Environment Agency, IBAMA, now has the EIA for the Belo Monte dam project, and parts are beginning to leak out.
Wading through the mix of academic, governmental and industrial jargon, it is easy to lose sight of the real, actual and immediate impacts that this monstrous project will have on the environment and the people of the Xingu.
The sections I have seen so far cover the impact on the area known as the Volta Grande, and on the diversity and populations of fish species. They make depressing reading. Phrases like “The impact will be irreversible, of the highest significance and of a high magnitude. The duration will be permanent, it will affect the entire cycle, the impact will be immediate and will take effect in the short term. The nature of the impact will be negative” occur several times.
My thoughts go back to our time on the river. We navigated the bubbling, crystal waters of the Volta Grande when we visited the Yudja (Juruna) village of Paquissamba. The river was alive with rapids, and fish were plentiful in the healthy waters. Occasionally, local people, both Indians and settlers, would pass in their boats with a friendly wave.
All of this will come to an abrupt halt if this project goes forward. The rushing, clean water will be replaced by fetid, stagnant pools and lakes full of mosquito larvae and dying fish. The already difficult-to-navigate channels will dry up and become impassable. The rocky riverbed, stripped of its water, will attract the attention of illegal gold prospectors, adding to the environmental destruction.
People who rely on the fish for their daily food will be forced from the area into the fringes of Altamira, to swell the already crowded and insanitary shanty towns which line the urban waterways. Nobody knows what will happen to the Yudja, or to the Arara settlement on the opposite side of the river. The Xicrin of Bacaja will no longer be able to navigate the river from their villages to the town, making the already long and dangerous journey in search of medical help impossible. Having made the Indians reliant on outside help, the government now plans to cut them off from the outside world.
The most productive land, in the areas beside the rivers which are flooded by rich sediment-laden water each year, will disappear below the water, or be left permanently dry and starved of its annual input of natural fertiliser. The people who farm this land will lose their livelihoods and be forced to migrate.
In terms of biodiversity, the impact could not be greater. The Volta Grande attracts adventurous fishermen from all over the world to pursue the rare game fish to be found there. These, some of them endemic, will be dramatically affected; many are likely to die out completely under the environmental stress of such a sudden and profound change in the local ecology.
My loss will be the chance to visit again a place of wild and unfettered beauty, to battle the rapids and to explore the myriad channels, backwaters and islands. But the loss to the local people and to mankind will be greater, the loss of species and the loss of a vibrant ecosystem, which is one of the few areas of the world where Man has had only a marginal impact.
Millions of tons of concrete will change this place forever. We need to fight this environmental crime with all of the weapons available to us.

Brazilian Supreme Court Decision – Raposa/Serra do Sol

In a landmark decision yesterday, eight of the eleven judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court voted in favour of the demarcation of the Raposa/Serra do Sol Indigenous Reserve respecting the existing boundaries mapped by FUNAI, the government Indian agency, with no votes against.
Disappointingly, one judge asked for more time to consider his decision, putting back the effective date of the judgement until early 2009, and another also decided to delay casting his vote. The third undecided judge was the president of the court, who traditionally only casts his vote last.
However, it seems that all parties now accept that the final decision will mean the removal of large industrial rice farms from Indian land, the expulsion of settlers and an eventual end to the threats and violence the Indians have suffered for thirty years at the hands of invading farmers.
Discussion is now moving towards demands for massive compensation, with the Governor of Roraima State, José Anchieta Júnior, supporting the claims of six large-scale rice farmers, while accepting that there is now no alternative but to accept the ruling.
The delay in making the judgement final means that there will be a period of several months when the 19,000 Indian inhabitants will be at the mercy of the invaders’ frustration. There is a serious danger of renewed violence in the area.
Joênia Batista de Carvalho, a lawyer acting for the Indians who is herself a Wapichana Indian, called for heightened security in the area.
“We are demanding that the authorities and FUNAI immediately reinforce the security in the region to maintain the peace,” she said. “We already know the outcome, and they [the rice farmers] also know that they are going to have to leave the area, so it is essential to increase security to avoid new conflicts.”
The Indians belong to five ethnic groups: Macuxi, Wapichana, Ingarikó, Taurepang and Patamona. They occupy an area of 1.7 million hectares. The rice producers wanted to exclude them from practically all of the fertile areas, leaving them to scratch a living from small patches of less productive land.
The judges brushed aside wild claims by the rice farmers and their supporters that demarcation of the reserve would be handing over control of a sensitive border area to foreign interests, insisting that the police and army would retain the right of access to the area despite the demarcation.
In other areas, the army often maintains good relations with indigenous people, who often benefit from transport and health provided by the army.
The judgement will affect the demarcation of other disputed Indian territories. The government will have to adopt new directives laid down by the court, which affect the process by which the remaining Indian territories which still have not been fully demarcated are handled.
A decision in favour of reducing the legally demarcated area, which would have left the Indians isolated in a series of small ‘islands’ of reserve, could have opened up the possibility of a new wave of challenges to other reserves which have already been demarcated. This is now much less likely, leaving Indians in many parts of Brazil with added security and more confidence in their future.

This is about the proposed Belo Monte dam, which the Brazilian government is driving through the licensing process with reckless haste. The Belo Monte dam would be the third largest in the world. As much earth moving would be required to build it as was needed to build the Panama Canal. Yet the Brazilian government has been trying to railroad the scheme through on a very tight timescale, riding roughshod over the tatters of Brazilian environmental legislation and ignoring the requirements of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which Brazil voted to endorse less than a year ago. A development of this size, with the potential to reverse much of the progress Brazil has made in the last few years in reducing the rate of deforestation, should be fully discussed, with all its ramifications explored in detail to reach a balanced and reasoned decision about its environmental, social and financial viability before deciding if it should be built or if it should be abandoned forever. NOTÍCIA PUBLICADA EL 26/10/2010 EN LOS DIÁRIOS DE BRASIL  SOBRE LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE LA USINA HIDROELÉCTRICA DE BELO MONTE:

26/10/2010- Belo Monte: Sin Infraestructura.
El Ministério Publico Federal de Pará envio una recomendación al presidente del IBAMA, Abelardo  Azevedo, para que el organo no emita nuevas licencias para la construcción de la hidroelectrica de Belo Monte.Segundo el documento, ninguna obra de infraestructura para atender a la populación atingida  tuvo início hasta el momento. La licencia previa del emprendimiento condiciona la instalación de la usina  a las obras de infraestructura. La recomendación( hecha por el MPF-Min.Publ.Federal al presidente de IBAMA) surgió después que las intendencias de las ciudades de Altamira y Vitória de Xingu(en el estado de Pará) prestaron informaciones y afirmaron que las obras para atender a la populación atingida todavia no salieron del "MARCO ZERO". El padron de juzgamiento habia sido adoptado por el proprio IBAMA para medir los impactos del emprendimiento junto al Ministério Público.

NOTICIA-MPF VA A ENTRAR CON RECURSO JURÍDICO CONTRA BELO MONTE.
El Ministerio Publico Federal en Pará espera apenas tener acceso a la íntegra de la decisión del IBAMA para pedir en la justicia el cancelamiento de la permisión que permite el início del projecto de construcción de la usina hidroelectrica de Belo Monte, en el Rio Xingu(estado de Pará). En la avaliación del juez Ubiratan Cazetta, no hay base legal para el modelo de "PERMISIÓN DE INSTALACIÓN ESPECÍFICA" concedida por el IBAMA el miércoles (26/01/2011). El IBAMA informó, en nota expedida, que autoriza el montaje de la infraestructura para la obra. Es contradictorio porque esta obra que todavia está pasando por la análisis antes de la concesión de la licencia definitiva.

Definitely the largest beach is the Cassino Beach located on the state of Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil. It begins at the Molhes (stone barrier built into the ocean separating the beach from the entrance to the Rio Grande seaport) in Cassino beach to nearly Chuí, on the border with Uruguay.
Cassino Beach is definitely the longest beach in the world with 255 Km of coast.

The following video was showed on sunday night ,09/01/2011, on the sunday night TV program with the largest audience in Brazil. The next day, monday, 10/01/2011, TV and radio stations programmation continue without mentioning that, it's like they're pretending nothing's happening. So, if the brazilian government and society aren't able to preserve that, international pressure and "HELP" is needed to protect this cultures that are disappearing. The agent from FUNAI that appears in this video asks for HELP, and says that if nothing's done immediatly, they will be extinguished.

Lumbers, farmers, hunters and invaders have attacked indians inside protected indian terrytory. Indians calmly ask for protection. The agent that works for FUNAI, (the official brazilian governmental organization created to protect indians), who appears in this video says that if this accelerated process of invasions continues, the future for them is extintion. An old indian mother has been shooted on the arm by a fire gun.

Foreign ONG's and governments environmentally concerned should argue IBAMA about this project and those licenses, but nobody does nothing. The Beatles did their first recording sessions as a backing band for english singer and guitarist Tony Sheridan, playing with him in hits like "My Bonnie", "Let's dance", "Ya Ya", "Ain't she sweet?" and others. This photo was taken in his hotel room, in Buenos Aires, the first time he came to play in South America. There was a Festival in the Cavern Club in Buenos Aires, with the presence of him, Julia Baird, (John Lennon is her brother!), Bill Heckle, (from the original Cavern Club in Liverpool), and a lot of bands playing Beatle's tunes.







Rio Negro: registers the lowest level in 40 years. Rio Negro is a tributary of the Amazonas river, and the second river in the world in water outflow volume, the first in the world in water flowing out is the Amazonas river.

In this photo, part of a "Castanheira" tree. At least, 50(fifty) of these "centenary" trees were cutted to construct residential quarters in the district of Parintins. The question is who gave the ambiental licenses to do that. Where is the government that consents and allows that?  
A new and creative architecture is necessary to occupy the spaces inside the rainforest area. A new way of life and mentality, a new approach on urbanization is needed, but people are not evoluted and ready for that, so they are destroying the rainforest. Ignorance is destroiyng the rainforest.

The way to the show:

Eternal beatle Paul McCartney did a great show here in Porto Alegre on sunday, 7, november, in the stadium of the Sport Club Internacional(Colorado), soccer/foot-ball team. We couldn't ask for more, (we could only imagine the other Beatles playing along with him). Porto Alegre was the first show of the 2010 latin american tour. We had some moment of poetry when he was singing :"Venus and Mars are alright tonight", and watching the sky pointing the stars on a hot stary night. He dedicated 1 song to John Lennon, 1 song to George Harrison and one song to Linda.  He warmed the  crowd saying "Eu sou gaúcho". 
We would like to hear every Beatle songs played by him & his band, cause, if John Lennon were alive, I don't know if he would be with his last wife, but I'm sure he would be singing and playing like he always did,  and in a good mental and physical shape, so we keep on imagining how good it would be this show with John sharing the stage, along with the strong guitar and harmony vocals of George, and the right swing of Ringo Star. From here Paul went to Buenos Aires and did 2 more shows, and then returned to São Paulo, Brazil, on saturday,20/11, to do 2 more shows. We would like to hear more songs from The Beatles in the show. We're already waiting for the next time here in POA.

EVERYDAY AN AMBIENTAL CRIME IS COMMITED, AND YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT SAVAGERY IN THESE DAYS IS NOT AMONG THE INDIANS, BUT IT IS IN OUR SOCIETY.
SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE RIGHT NOW! THE ACTUAL LEADING STATESMEN OF THE WORLD DON'T DO NOTHING, THEY'VE LOST THE FOCUS, THEY'RE TOO BUSY SPENDING MORE MONEY AND ENERGY THAN NEEDED TO COMBAT TERRORISM.
OF COURSE WE MUST ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON THEM, THAT WILL ALWAYS HAVE TO BE DONE, BUT THEY'RE OVEREVALUATING THE WRONG THINGS, GIVING SOME PEOPLE THE IMPORTANCE THEY DON'T HAVE, THEY'RE SO DESPICABLE THAT THEY DON'T EVEN NEED TO BE MENTIONED, BUT WE ALWAYS HAVE TO WATCH OVER THEM. 
YOU ARE WINING IF YOU COMBAT THOSE THINGS WITHOUT SPENDING SO MUCH TIME, MONEY AND ENERGY.

IN KOPPENHAGEN/2010, WHILE THE RAINFOREST IS BEING DESTROYED,THEY SPENT TIME GREETING AND PRAISING EACH OTHER, AND THEY DID NOTHING TO STOP THE ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION OF OUR PLANET.
"NOBODY SAID A WORD TO LULA ABOUT THE DEFORESTATION AND THE DESTRUCTION OF THE RAINFOREST", AND WE HAD TO STAND IT AND SEE LULA POSING AS THE "GOOD BOY" AND PROTECTOR OF NATURE WHILE HE'S NOT DOING HIS HOMEWORK WELL.
