The Rolling Stones - Backstreet Girl - 33 1/3 RPM. Spring is the season of flowers. Spring has begun, and I was listening to this Lp on Sunday. This song did not appear on the album Flowers released in the UK, but in the edition in Brazil, Argentina and the United States it's on the album, and is a poetry. These are the original Rolling Stones with Brian Jones. I like this, and "Have you seen your mother baby standing in the shadow". Two extremes.

Fire in the public marketplace:
Our oldest public market, which is right across the river, caught on fire last Saturday night. Luckily for me it was on a Saturday, since I work in a building in front of this, the smoke spread throughout the area. The weather helped minimize damage to the air, and as it rained on Sunday, monday the air was clean.
The city's mayor had a trip scheduled to Brasilia on Monday for a meeting with President Dilma Rousseff, and now will be as targets of the conversation a request for federal funds for reconstruction and modernization of the market. The President Dilma must be sensitive to this issue, as she studied and majored in economics at the local college, and when she lived here, was frequenter of this market.
There were no injuries and now everything is fine.

Tom Jobim - Angela. Tom is well accompanied in this album "Urubu". Tom plays fender rhodes, piano and vocals, Ron Carter on acoustic bass, João Palma, drums, Ray Armando, percussion, orchestra arranged and conducted by Claus Ogerman.
Vinicius dropped his diplomatic career to devote himself only to music and poetry, and wrote some beautiful songs along with the music of Tom Jobim. They wrote dozens of songs with woman names, Luiza, Ligia, Angela ... This is one of these.

She invented that name, and I not know from where she got that name, nor why. She was gentle, rather than by name, she always called us Treasure. |

In my mother's apartment,there's a picture hanging on the wall with a
portrait of Grandma. I asked: Is this a photo or a painting? She
told me it was a painting and gave me a small magazine with
information about this painter. I hungrily read this magazine and I selected some
information about him. He was born in Portugal, but has been around
the world, lived three years in Brazil and was also in Buenos Aires.
He was also a great portraitist. One of the greatest art critics of
his time, Rene Huyghe, compared him to Goya, Velázquez and Nuno
Gonçalves, and said that Henrique Medina was one of the greatest
painters of his era in portraiture, if not the greatest of all. But
the painter countered and said: "I believe the Nude, in my art, as
painting, the most interesting part of my career, perhaps superior to
the portrait, which gave me more name".
Henrique Medina also said: "In my youth, I even had a tendency to
impressionism, but I wanted to be more demanding, I chose other ways,
more difficult. Impressionism is an easier thing. Difficult, is the
portrait. Wanting only, is not sufficient to make portraits". And he
added: "As everybody likes to make money, they had to make that
the painting were not a difficult thing ..."
He was chosen by Metro
Goldwyn Mayer to paint the portrait of Dorian Gray for use in the
film based on the work of Oscar Wilde, and also that of Greer Garson
for the movie Mrs.Parkington.
He said that when he was
painting never let people see the picture before it was finished. And
when people insisted to see, he quoted the words of a
philosopher: "Even nature doesn't bring to life
a child before it's ready to be viewed."
But he said that that didn't work with the fascist dictator Benito
Mussolini (sick)! He was young when he was invited to go to Italy to
make that portrait, and he spent five mornings in a large hall doing
the work, when the Italian tyrant stood up and came peeking behind
him, to see the picture, he was trembling. He
also met and did a portrait of Albert Einstein in California, and of
course that was a lot better.
Besides
Einstein, he portrayed the religious leader Mac Pherson, actresses
Mary Pickford, Linda Darnell, Jeanette MacDonald, Greer Garson, Jane
de Amo, one of the beautiful twins Vanderbilt, who became the
Viscountess Furness, singers Lily Pons, Galli Curci, writers,
politicians, presidents, members of the royal family, scientists, etc
...
With a refined
technique, he could give his version of the person portrayed, he was able to capture the essence of the person portrayed
At
the end of his life, returned to his homeland, and there spent his
last years removed from the world, and fame, despite still having a home in Hollywood, rented for a couple of Portuguese. This painter, who once
portrayed celebrities, spent the days in a dialogue with the
screen, painting from 8 in the morning until the sun go down, thus fulfilling
his destiny . His models then were mostly humble people, old people
and children, peasants and fishermen.

But she was a bit uncomprehended.
You know that in a moralistic
society, being single, and having a daughter, without a man by your
side, it's pretty objectionable.
But if there were less "normal" people and more people like that, even with the craziness of her, the world would be more civilized and less brute.It's amazing that 2 days ago I didn't have that information.
Thus I discovered this painter, a master of his art.

Not everyone can say that played with Stan Getz. It's worth remarking that this record has also Michael Brecker on tenor sax, Joe Sample, piano, John Patitucci, bass, Omar Hakim, drums, Lenny Castro, Percussion, Mark Russo, tenor saxophone, Jerry Hey, trumpet/flugel, Larry Williams, tenor sax, Kirk Whalum, tenor sax, an incredible horn section, Russell Ferrante, piano, and EBTG, this dear couple, with one of the most beautiful voices that there is. The acoustic version is also very good, so I'll put it twice.

One of the largest tragedies of our history.There was a festival this weekend here on our beach and several bands paid tribute to those affected by the tragedy.
Saturday, in a crowded nightclub, this terrible tragedy happened. Similar tragedies have occurred, as was the case in Rhode Island ten years ago, but this is even more serious. There are still people in hospitals in Porto Alegre with pulmonary intoxication, by vacuuming the smoke.
This city has an important federal university, among others, and many of the boys and girls who were in that club that night, were students. Youth with a life ahead, which makes this event even more tragic. Of all the news that are reported about tragedies every day, this was really unexpected and a shock spread throughout the country and particularly in this state.
Makes us think that we have to take some cares, but life is unpredictable, sudden and sometimes things can change, so we have to appreciate the fact of being here and now.
The place was packed with about 800 young people who just wanted to have fun. The place caught fire, had no emergency exits, in less than five minutes a intoxicating smoke spread throughout the site.
It is incredible that only after things happen, the authorities begin to take preventive measures. Now they are inspecting and closing several nightclubs in major cities of the country.
Here, in the city of Santa Maria, the townhall and fire departments are blaming each other. The owners of the nightclub and musicians who were performing, who shot fireworks that started the fire in the ceiling, are arrested. But the license for both the town hall as firefighters were overdue and the house could not be working, the capacity of the place was for a maximum of 600 people, and a fire extinguisher failed because it had already been fired once by an irresponsible drunken guy for fun and was not replaced! Anyway, there was no inspection done by the city or firefighters.
We can only express our feelings to the families, relatives and friends, and hope they have the strength to carry on, and hope that justice is done.

Vacations. Que calor!

They come every year from southern Argentina, this time of year. As they have a lot of trust in people, in the past they have been subject to indiscriminate fishing. Now they can be seen swimming near the surfers, and also boat trips are organized for people to see them.

When I was going to work at 8 am, there were around 100 people in the queue and when I was returning home, around 9 pm, the show was already going on and I heard something and watched the big screen from the street, for 5 minutes. She made presentations in these three cities of Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Porto Alegre and is now going to work in Argentina, in Buenos Aires. Here she was criticized by many and lionized by some.

Quando você chegou - Flávio Venturini. I enjoy this guy's music. I recorded a guitar in one song from an album he made for EMI-ODEON in Rio de Janeiro. I was living in Belém do Pará when he called me asking to join the session. They sent a plane ticket, accommodation in a hotel and paid for. Major record labels have it. I had previously played with him here in POA, in São Paulo, also stayed at his house in Belo Horizonte and some days in a house in the hills in a place close to São Paulo where his band at the time, the 14 Bis rehearsed. In the mean time between the invitation and the recording my father passed away, then I did not have much to do in Belem and decided to go back to the South, where the rest of my family was. After the recording I continued trip to POA.

Poor Amazonia. Until when? I have lived in Belém do Pará for a while, and being in a big city with over one million inhabitants, and so close to the Amazon rainforest, you can feel the contrasts between the jungle and the urban society, at times chaotic.
In 1967, when he was 70 years, the American millionaire Daniel Keith Ludwig began an adventure comparable to that of his compatriot, Henry Ford, 40 years earlier. Ford tried to thicken the rubber feet on native forest, in which it is derived, so that production became commercially profitable.
Ludwig would replace the trees of the Amazon by an Asian species almost unknown. The characteristic of gmelina tree was growing faster and give more pulp than traditional sources of this fiber, pine and eucalyptus.
Ludwig assembled an army of men and machines ever seen in the region to put down thousands and thousands of trees, the average 10/12 000 hectares per year. A hundred thousand hectares of typical rainforest, with the greatest diversity of plant species on the planet, would house a forest planted with a single species - and exotic. The gmelina, hitherto used for the production of cellulose, would serve the "holy grail" of Ludwig over competitors, surprising them and winning.
The leap was so mistaken as Ford. The weak soil was not a good basis for the development of the Asian tree, demanding of nutrients. In patches of fertile land would be a waste plant it.
